WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
ASL/English interpreters need to be prepared to balance compassion while thoughtfully maintaining the tenets of the NAD/RID CPC. Come learn how to act as a cultural mediator and not a helper. Learn the signs and symptoms of trauma, and nuances of the setting to achieve successful interpreting outcomes by minimizing linguistic errors and omissions. PRESENTER: Kristin Grace, LCSW, NIC hails from the great state of Illinois, where she worked at Chicago’s Rape Victim Advocates- Deaf program from 2001-2003 as a therapist and a certified Rape Crisis Counselor in the ER setting. She later achieved the LCSW (clinical license) and worked as a LCSW in a variety of social service environments such as private practice, DFACS and ADA State Monitoring. While simultaneously working as a clinician, Kristin worked as an ASL/English interpreter, predominantly in the medical and post-secondary settings. Kristin currently works in private practice as a LCSW for Deaf individuals and in the VRS setting as a VI. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, taking trips to the beach and learning about living green and environmental sustainability.
